What a amazing man, lived a truly great life. We all could learn from him.

Really enjoyed reading this. I would read so much then watch a series of Band of Brothers, and read more. Makes me understand more of what all they went thru. Wish I could of been their to help them. RIP Shifty Powers.

This is a very great book I recommend this to anyone who wants to read a great book or likes war book with personal accounts

A well written account of an ordinary man, leading an extraordinary life. He would always be there for family, friends, buddies, always do his duty. He never spoke about the bad parts, even as his life was reduced to "light, dark, light". I'm a Clinical Psychologist, and I treat PTSD suffered by veterans. As I read about Shifty holding in his thoughts, fearing speaking out loud for fear that it will all come back, I felt great sadness. I see a few veterans, aged 87-90's, coming in to speak, finally after all these years. Reading Shifty's story helps me be a little closer to these men, these heroes. I remain in awe.
