This book is my favorite story of all time. When I finished I was so moved and I could have turned around and started it right over. Absolutely beautifully written, so detailed and the way MrMartel told the story my mind was able to create incredibly vivid images. It was exciting and heartbreaking and stunning at the same time. I highly recommend it. I become emotional just thinking about it and it’s been over 10 years since I last read it.

Everyone that i talk to about how much i love this book always complains about how boring it was to read for English class. To which I say, of course it sucked when you read it in class and had to take silly quizzes and notes on it. I hated it in English class too. but then i watched the movie and really loved that, so i gave it another try on my own pacing and with out school stress and oh. my. god. This book beautifully presented the battle of survival and morals/ethics. As someone who grew up religious but really struggled with thei identity in the church and eventually left, this book has an incredibly interesting and fascinating ways of looking into religion using the most extreme conditions and metaphors to explain the constant battles religion brings, but also the comfort and morality it can make. PLEASE READ OUTSIDE OF AN ENGLISH CLASS IF YOU HAVENT ALREADY!!!
  • A fantastic yet believably told story.

I loved this book for several reasons. It really gave insight into the thinking and emotions of wild animals. It also incredibly describes what the body and mind can endure to survive. It’s beautifully written. And it’s ending did not disappoint.
